Bowen Park

Bowen Park was named after Queensland Governor, George Bowen.

Bowen Park was originally a parcel of land of about 16 hectares (40 acres) bordered by O\'Connell Terrace, Bowen Bridge Road, Gregory Terrace and Brookes Street. The land was granted to the Queensland Acclimatisation Society in two grants, the first in 1863 and the secnd in 1866.

Some of the land had previously been used as a brickworks while the remainder was virgin bushland. Over the years parts of the land were progressively leased, sold and resumed for other purposes, resulting in only 1.774 hectares (4.383 acres) remaining by 1955 in the north-western corner of the original site (on the corner of O\'Connell Terrace and Bowen Bridge Road).

Bowen Park is a public pleasure garden with trees, garden beds and pathways with a rotunda under the management of the Brisbane City Council. It is popular for garden weddings. It is within easy walking distance of the Old Museum Building and the Brisbane Exhibition Ground.
