The ANZAC Square War Memorial is uniquely and ideally set in peaceful surrounds amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. The Shrine of Remembrance, with its Eternal Flame, forms the focal point for the radially patterned pathways, pools, lawns with Bribie Island Pine and Bottle trees.

History:

This historic site, which was opened on Armistice Day on the 11th November 1930, features the Shrine of Remembrance with Eternal Flame. In the subway beneath the stairs is the Shrine of Memories and Crypt with war memorials, honour rolls, unit plaques and artefacts from various war cemeteries.

The Shrine is comprised of 18 columns representing the year of peace after World War I. The stairs linking the shrine with the square are 19 on the lower part and 18 on the two upper staircases (1918), symbolising the year the Great War ended. Co-located beside ANZAC Square, in the pedestrian tunnel, is the World War II Shrine of Memories.

Visitors can view Honour Rolls, Unit Plaques and a mosaic containing over 140,000 hand-cut Venetian glass enamels and soils from official World War II cemeteries. Daphne Mayo sculptured the Women's War Memorial that forms part of the rear wall of the
