A postmodern high-rise which features a dome mimicking the dome on the adjacent Customs House.
History:
This 28-floor building with a dome structure on its top was completed in 1998. The Marriott hotel includes executive and presidential suites with five levels of dedicated executive floors and an indoor swimming pool. The dome design atop the high-rise, which mimics the design of the nearby Customs House, houses the Dome Retreat Spa.
Building Materials:
The hotel's external facade and flowerbeds comprise a white leucogranite, pink equigranular biotite granite and a greenish black coarse gabbro that were probably imported. Combinations of the same rock material are used for the chequered floor in the main entrance.
The floor in the main foyer is brownish black marble with white calcite veining abutting an orange granite framing the checkered pattern. The main doorway arch into the reception area is a pale brownish-white marble. All these stones were imported.
