URPoint Details
This URP is provided and maintained by members of the Geological Society of Australia as a geo-located community knowledge service.
A relatively new high-rise concrete and steel building with some exotic imported high-grade metamorphic rocks used a pillar cladding.
History:
This concrete and steel framed building was erected as a large capital works construction on behalf of the State Government in late (2006). In 2009 Watpac Specialty Services started a project to amalgamate the 9 story David Longland Building at 63 George Street with the older 8 story Health and Welfare Building at 81 George Street.
Building stones:
The cladding on the pillars was designed as a feature for the building on ground level. Two varieties of red garnet rich marble gneiss were used - a white garnet leucogranite gneiss and a medium to dark green garnet serpentinite marble gneiss. Both of these rocks are believed to have been imported from India.
