History:
The Myer Centre incorporates a nine-floor shopping complex which includes Queensland's largest Myer department store. The Myer Centre was opened in April 1988 (just in time for the World Expo '88). The Myer Centre is open to the public seven days a week. The Myer Centre also functions as a major transport hub for the Brisbane CBD. With Queen Street being modified in 1982 to become a pedestrian zone, a major bus center was designed in the underground levels of this complex.
Most buses from the suburbs originate and end near or under the Myer Centre. The construction project was carried out in 18 months by REMM Group Ltd. The site was excavated to a depth of 22 m (8 m this was the largest urban excavation in Australia. The site has one of the larget car parks in the city adjacent to some 170 stores.
The facades of four historical buildings which occupied parts of the site have been incorporated into the design, a process known as facadism. This means the facades of the old buildings have been retained and restored within the new structure. These
