King Edward Park – a sculpture park.
History
King Edward Park was reopened in 1990 by the Brisbane City Council as a Sculpture Park. It contains sculptures from the World Expo 1988 and later years.
The sub tropical park has numerous shade trees and sculptures on the higher levels some of which were derived from World Expo 1988.
There is an excellent vista from Jacobs Ladder (the name for the set of steps) to the east along Edward Street across the river to Kangaroo Point. There is an eclectic mix of sculptures in the park - one looks to a geologist like a dinosaur in stone. It is from world Expo 1988 and is called Memories of Wind. Another is still life with landscapes.
Vegetation in the park
The vegetation in the park is typical of most Brisbane parks containing large areas of lawn under shade trees. Benches have been added for relaxation and reflection.
