Roma Street Parkland is the world\'s largest subtropical garden in a city centre The parkland features a variety of themed gardens and recreational areas, with a web of pathways and boardwalks traversing cascading waterways and rocky outcrops, and also in situ artworks by 16 local artists.
HISTORY
The Roma Street Parkland site has a long and colourful history. Long before European settlement, its central location and natural reservoir made it a popular meeting place for several Indigenous groups.
As the Brisbane settlement expanded in the 1800s, the area’s uses diversified. In 1874, the Roma Street Railway Station, formerly known as the Brisbane Terminus, was built. From 1884 to 1964, part of the area was reserved for the Brisbane Markets, where people could buy fresh produce and live animals. The birth of Roma Street Parkland in 2001 herladed the dawn of yet another new era in the area’s history

Roma Street Parkland features a large collection of public art.
As part of the site’s original development, 16 of Queensland’s most talented artists were commissioned to create a collection of 15 pieces for the Parkland. Each artwork has a story to tell and
